Arnica Oil

Arnica grows abundantly in the alpine meadows of Star Valley, Wyoming. We harvest arnica in-bloom to create the freshest, most potent arnica products.

Agricultural Practices

The arnica plant (Arnica spp.) is found throughout the Rocky Mountains of North America. Wind River Herbs wildharvests its arnica from surrounding forests. Each flower and leaf is harvested by hand. Wind River Herbs harvests arnica responsibly, carefully observing the plant community in these areas and helping to maintain its vitality using organic methods.

Processing Methods

What makes Wind River Herbs arnica products unique?

Fresh arnica flowers and leaves are infused directly into pure almond oil using a low-heat extraction process immediately after the plant is harvested. The cold-pressed almond oil is free of solvents and chemicals. Essential oils in all Wind River Herbs arnica products are organic, certified organic, or wildharvested (ie, NO synthetics).

Vitamin E is added to our arnica products as an antioxidant. Beeswax is filtered and tested to be free of impurities before it is incorporated into Wind River Herbs arnica products.

About Arnica and its Uses

For centuries arnica flowers have been used in herbal medicine to treat bruises, sprains and to relax stiff muscles. Arnica contains sesquiterpene lactones, substances known to reduce inflammation and decrease pain. Other active properties are thymol (an essential oil), flavonoids, inulin, carotenoids and tannins.

Arnica has also been shown to stimulate the activity of white blood cells that digest congested and coagulated blood. Arnica should not be applied to broken skin. Infrequently, arnica may cause an allergic reaction on the skin. Should this occur, the use of arnica should be discontinued.
